hi

Salaam = Peace in Arabic / Shalom = Peace in Hebrew

Aikido is a non-violent Japanese martial art rooted in a profound philosophy and physical practice
of oneness and harmony. It is widely known as The Art of Peace.

The Middle East Aikido Project (MAP)
Leading beyond hatred and violence to a new culture of Peaceful Power
and Constructive Conflict Resolution in the Middle East

The Middle East Aikido Project (MAP) and Salaam Shalom Aikido (SSA) were created in 2004 through
Aiki Extensions,
an American non-profit which applies the peaceful principles of Aikido in many realms of life and areas of the world. Through the shared practice of Aikido across national and ideological borders, MAP is working effectively to:

1) Spread the non-violent practice and peace education of Aikido in Israel, Palestine, and throughout the Middle East

2) Establish peaceful contact between Arabs and Jews through martial arts training and joint events dedicated to mutual respect and peaceful co-existence

3) Strengthen bi-communal ties and inter-ethnic understanding

4) Build bridges of hope, healing, new friendship & cooperation

5) Create youth & adult “Ambassadors for Peace”
and a new generation of peacemakers

MAP was born from a “Salaam Shalom Aikido” dream of Sensei Jamie Leno Zimron back in 1994 and the visionary Training Across Borders work of Aiki Extensions Founder Don Levine, Sensei Richard Strozzi Heckler and Director Philip Emminger.

The project continues daily to expand its influence. Given security precautions for MAP participants and the many Aikidoists involved, we are unable to mention or picture all those who are making such a difference through this work.

We wish to honor every individual as they step forth in courage, conviction and goodwill to practice O’Sensei’s
Art of Peace. Salaam. Shalom. May peace prevail in the Middle East!

and even love each other."
